The holy spirit is a spirit that carries all grace which are perfected and brought into existence by Him. that is, grace of purity, power, holiness, faith, love and joy. Therefore for us to have all this grace and be perfected in them we need the holy spirit, which is the third person in Trinity. The descending of the Holy spirit highly depend on prayer, because it is only prayer that can meet with the demand and authority of the holy spirit and the place or realm which the holy spirit dwells, that is the God head throne.
The reception of the holy spirit is condition strictly on prayer and he proved it just when the holy spirit came upon him like a dove during baptism. Jesus was filled with the holy spirit; therefore He knew what it takes in receiving the holy spirit that was why he said in John 14:15-17 "if you love me, keep my commandments, and I will pray the father, and He will give you another Helper that He may abide with you forever. The spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him not knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you".
Every man on earth is subjected to prayer in other for things to go well, even our Loud Jesus Christ know that the mission that which He was sent could not be achieved if He do not pray, that was why He was subjected to payer. The bible says "ask and it shall be given unto you, seek and ye shall find; knock and it shall be open unto you" Matt 7:7. This destroys every theory which denies prayer as the condition of the coming or receiving the Holy spirit and confirms that God great and most precious gift and condition on asking, seeking and knocking depends on prayer. Remember that the Apostles dwell in the upper room in one accord praying and this day marked a turning point amidst the early Christians. When the holy spirit came and filled their souls.
In conclusion, the ability of God to answer and work through our prayer is measured by the divine energy that God had been enabled to put in us by the Holy spirit. The scripture says, but you shall receive power when the Holy spirit had come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end if the earth. Acts 1:8.

GIFTS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

WISDOM: This is the capacities to love spiritual things more than material ones. UNDERSTANDING: The gift to comprehend how we need to live as followers of Christ. COUNSEL/RIGHT JUDGMENT: with this gift, we know the differences between right and wrong.
FORTITUDE/COURAGE: Gift to overcome our fear and encourage us to willingly take risks as a follower of Christ.
KNOWLEDGE: With the gift of knowledge, we know the meaning of God's will. FEAR OF THE LORD: With this gift, we are aware of the glory and majesty of God. REVERENCE: this is sometimes called piety, this gift gives us a deep sense for having respect for God, for His temple and church.

THE WORKS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT
The Gospel according to St. John explicate the work of the holy spirit as the one who:
-Helps us in our weakness
-Delivers people from their sins
-Teaches us what we don't know and which is confusing
-Gives boldness and courage to people to stand in time of sorrows and pains
-Comforts those that are passing through problems and other hardships
-Heals people from sicknesses and diverse diseases.
-Helps to uphold the Christendom and to restore religious courts of justice.
-The holy spirit rescues, delivers, saves people from danger or harm.
